story | design | craftWe fulfil your garden daydreams.
Garden & Landscape Design.
We do this by putting you first – by listening to you, what you want from your garden, how you want to use it and what your personal tastes are.
We spend most of the time at the initial consultation listening to you in order to get the brief right. We then send you an estimate for our services. We cost out every stage of the process including:
The concept layout/masterplan
A detailed outline design
Planting design
Hard landscape design and construction drawings
Scope of works and specification
Health and safety documentation (CDM)
Managing the tender process to individual trades based on the design specification
On-site design management
From the very start of the process, we set out our services and fees, honestly and transparently, so you know exactly what you can expect.
Our design process to craft your garden.
Initial consultation
In this first and most important step, we discuss what you want from your garden.
Site survey
We take detailed measurements of each site to produce accurate designs, construction drawings, and estimates. Depending on the site's complexity, these surveys are conducted either by our team or in partnership with trusted third-party specialists.
Horticultural analysis
We conduct thorough soil testing and profiling for every planting area in your garden, along with measurements of sunlight, wind, and rainfall. These assessments ensure that the selected plants will thrive in your unique soil conditions and help determine if any soil improvements are needed. We also identify existing plants and trees to thoughtfully incorporate them into your new planting design.
Sustainability audit
A sustainability audit provides a comprehensive assessment of the site, gathering detailed information such as an inventory of sustainability concerns, strategies for water and energy conservation, plans for reusing materials, recommendations for planted and hard landscaping, and guidance on minimising soil disturbance during construction. It also addresses site access issues to help reduce costs and environmental impact.
Concept layout/masterplan
We produce a concept design for discussion and review. Your input here is highly valued and we find this gives clients a sense of ownership over what will be created.
Detailed outline design
This stage delivers a fully developed and detailed outline design. Our attention to detail ensures you can clearly visualise how your finished garden will look, providing confidence and inspiration as the project moves forward.
Hand Drawn vs. AI in Garden Design
As a design studio working with nature, we predominantly produce our sketches, concepts, and drawings by hand to bring our designs to life.
Hand-drawn sketches offer a uniquely personal and artistic perspective, capturing our design vision and the individuality of each garden. This approach allows for intuitive creativity, direct connection with the landscape, and a tangible sense of craftsmanship. Every line reflects the designer’s expertise and sensitivity to the site’s natural qualities.
In contrast, AI-generated designs may offer speed and technical precision but often lack the nuanced understanding of place, evolving nature, and client personality. The human touch in hand-drawn work ensures that each design is truly bespoke, reflecting not just trends but the soul of the garden and its future growth.
Choosing hand-drawn garden design means investing in authenticity, artistry, and a garden that’s as unique as you. Once the final design is agreed upon, we transfer it to the computer to produce precise construction drawings tailored to the tradespersons preferences.
Planting design, plant supply & installation
Every tree and plant is hand-selected based on your preferences, Oliver’s vision, and—most importantly—the unique growing conditions of your garden. Plants are combined thoughtfully to create visually pleasing displays with reliable species, year-round interest and strong structure. We have a team of horticulturalists who will plant the garden and establish each plant professionally.
Hard landscaping materials selection
We carefully choose hard landscaping materials to ensure a cohesive design that complements your property and its existing features. Our selections include stone, aggregates, and reclaimed materials, all chosen to harmonise with your garden and its overall aesthetic.
Design & construction drawings
These technical drawings are required to enable each subcontractor to craft the garden that we have designed for you. Scope of works and specification This is a written set of instructions that facilitate the construction of the garden by detailing the materials to be used and techniques to be employed. Health and safety documentation (CDM) This is a statutory obligation.
Tendering individual building trades
We work with individual local trades based on our bespoke design. For example, if we have decided on a reclaimed stone path, an oak pergola, and flintstone raised planters, we will source and contract the individual trades: a bricklayer, a carpenter specialising in that material, and a flintwork specialist. We do not contract the whole project to a single landscaper. This ensures the highest-quality build for each design element and working with that specialist to create a truly unique garden.
On-site design management
Once the final design is agreed upon and each trusted subcontractor are engaged, we actively manage the project to ensure every detail is preserved. We prevent any potential cost-saving substitutions of materials and ensure that planting is executed to the highest standard. As the principal designers, we protect the design intent, providing on-site oversight and making regular visits throughout the build. This is not an optional extra, but a fundamental service that guarantees your garden remains true to our original vision from start to finish.
Garden establishment & aftercare
All gardens require on-going attention and care to keep them looking their best. Seasonal or annual visits can be made to ensure that the garden is developing as it should and we are able to prepare maintenance schedules and reports for clients or for their gardeners.
Professional membership
We hold an associate designer membership of the British Association of Landscape Industries (BALI) and comply with their Code of Professional Conduct and hold the appropriate insurances for our work. For more information, please contact us.
