Stagecraft to Making Gardens
Oliver Roberts
Director and Designer
Oliver moved into horticulture six years ago, working in high-end maintenance gardening in London, to landscaping and plant retail in Norfolk.
In 2024, Oliver earned a certificate in practical horticulture with distinction from the Norfolk School of Gardening. The following year, in 2025, he worked at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show and the RHS Hampton Court Garden Festival with Peter Beales Roses on their award-winning exhibitions.
Prior to his horticultural career, Oliver's background is in stage lighting, having gained over 20 years of experience in the theatre and television industries since graduating with a degree in theatre and media production.
He began his stage lighting career at the National Theatre, later freelancing in London and Manchester. This led to joining the BBC, where he worked on live broadcasts including Live8 in Hyde Park, VE Day 60th Anniversary in Trafalgar Square, and the Queen's Golden Jubilee at Buckingham Palace.
Drawing on this production experience, Oliver now blends theatre with garden design, channelling spatial awareness, creativity, storytelling, and professionalism into horticulture.
Blending his theatrical creativity with his passion for the outdoors, Oliver founded his company in 2024. He is making his own path in the industry, drawing on his experience as an inspiring designer and entrepreneur.
